If you’ve ever been to a wedding reception in New Jersey, then you know that outside of the bride and groom, the wedding cake is absolutely the star of the show. Often the focal point in the room, the wedding cake is a big deal, which makes choosing the right design and flavors a huge task for couples. Since we’ve seen our share of cakes here at Atlantis Ballroom, we figured we’d ease some of the frustration and give you a few pointers on wedding cake designs for your big day.

All White is In

If color choices for the frosting have you frustrated, you’ll be pleased to learn that many couples are sticking with traditional white frosting. There’s something very classic about a wedding cake draped in layers of white frosting. You can get creative with the decorations. As you’ll see here, these white cakes with white roses give off romantic vibes without being over the top.

Change the Shape

Rather than go with a traditional round wedding cake, you can switch things up by asking the bakery to create a square cake. These square tier cakes are amazing and can add a bit of originality to a non-traditional wedding reception.

Different Shades

Another popular choice we’ve seen for wedding cakes is varying or ombre (fading/gradient) shades of the same color. Especially popular with colors like blue and green, the icing starts off very light and then gradually gets darker in color. Great for beach themes or as a stand-alone design, adding different shades to your wedding colors gives it more depth. The wavy and organic texture of the frosting adds even more coastal flavor to this look.

Your wedding cake design should be considered with care. It is after all one of the main attractions at your reception. When choosing the design keep things like colors, taste, and themes in mind to design a cake that will tie your reception together well.
